The Martha Is Mine...An Almost True Story
This is a new book for children by Rick and Greg filled with vivid watercolor illustrations. Here's the plot:
When Frannie gives us The Martha, an old and dilapidated rowboat, we decide to give her a total makeover. But once she's beautiful again, each of our eccentric houseboat neighbors claim her as their own. In the wink of an eye Martha becomes the object of everyone's affection and the squabbling begins. When persnickety Jeanette and her poodle sidekick, Lilly, row out for their daily tanning sessions, Darnell demands to use Martha to water his floating begonia garden. Just when Hans rows one of his famous apple strudels over to the Harbormaster, Mr. and Mrs. Rivera decide this is the perfect time to teach their grandchildren how to paddle.
Then one dark day The Martha disappears from the Marina under mysterious circumstances.
Find out what happens to us all in this whimsical and enchanting fable about false blame, ownership, the power of community, and, finally, happiness.
Praise for The Martha Is Mine
"...[The Martha] is magnificent! Can't wait to share it with my grandchildren..."
